When Pete Torrey began his real estate career in July of 1977, he wanted to use some of the tools of his past profession in his marketing. He had been a television sportscaster at KXTV in Sacramento and WANE TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1970-77. In Pete’s stint as a TV sports anchor he wrote almost all of his own material so he felt that writing his own newsletter would be a natural for him. Other agents were sending out periodicals written by companies based in Washington DC or New York City which had very little relevance to the Bay Area. The next decision was where to deliver it. Pete decided on the Scottsdale area of Walnut Creek after being told by one of the senior agents in his previous office that was a poor decision because of lack of "turnover" in the neighborhood. Pete told that same agent "that is precisely why I wanted to work that area!" Actually the term for this real estate practice is "farming;" to be generally defined as marketing in a specific region. Then the next step was what to call this newsletter. Pete’s wife Jean suggested he call it the "Triangle News" as the area served would be bordered by Ygnacio Valley Rd, Wiget Lane, and Walnut Ave. As the years passed Pete added the Brooktree, Ygnacio Grove, and Arrowood subdivisions. He has delivered between ten and 15 newsletters a year for 31 years and the response has been terrific. The area has now become known as the "Triangle" because of the notoriety and longevity of the original "Triangle News." Today, the Triangle News includes free advertising for people in the area selling items, offering services, and renting vacation homes. It features updates on the real estate world, including pictures of featured properties. The Triangle News features up-to-date sold property information for that area, which keeps the readers up to speed on what is selling in their neighborhood. It also features multiple writers including Pete’s son and partner Zack, who gives a young perspective on the world of real estate. It also features “Britt Tips,” which are written by Zack’s wife Brittney. She is an interior designer who gives excellent advice on property improvement ideas, decorating, and design. Plus Brittney uses the Triangle News to look at the real estate world from a female perspective. Click here to find out more about The Torrey Team! Click here to read our newsletter! |
